For the 10th consecutive year, metro Detroiters demonstrated their can-do spirit, donating 15,085 pounds of non-perishable food items as part of Home Furnishings Association (HFA) member Art Van Furniture’s “Together We Can” food drive.
This year’s campaign benefited Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Enough food was collected to provide 12,520 meals to families in need across southeastern Michigan.
“The generosity shown by our viewers and Art Van Furniture shoppers during the past 10 years represents the true meaning of the holidays,” said Mike Murri, vice president and general manager of WXYZ-TV and WMYD-TV, which co-sponsored the drive. “This annual campaign has an enormous impact on the lives of those less fortunate in our community.”
Metro Detroiters opened their pantries and brought cans, bags and boxes of food to 18 Art Van Furniture stores located in the communities served by the Gleaners food bank. The retailer’s participating Michigan showrooms were in Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Bloomfield, Canton, Chesterfield Township, Clinton Township, Dearborn, Drayton Plains, Howell, Livonia, Novi, Royal Oak, Southfield, Sterling Heights,Taylor, Warren and Westland.
