California considers measure to cut down on paper receipts

A California legislator introduced a “Skip the Slip” bill Jan. 8.  It aims to reduce paper consumption by requiring retailers to offer customers digital sales receipts. Buyers could choose to receive paper copies. “Each year in the United States, up to 10 million trees and 21 billion gallons of water are used to create receipts, which generate 686 million pounds of waste and 12 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of one million cars on the road,” Assembly member Phil Ting, a Democrat from San Francisco, said. If enacted, the measure would take effect Jan. 1, 2022. Skip the

Lorri Kelley speaks with hard-earned credibility

To Lorri Kelley, leadership is about credibility. “It goes back to establishing credibility for yourself by doing whatever you need to do to build your skills to be a highly effective leader,” she told HFA recently. She would know, having gained her first management position more than a quarter-century ago, when few women were found in such roles in the furniture industry. “I had to work twice as hard and be three times more prepared. Plans changed when his three sons decided to join the family business. “We were having fun with the whole family working together,” says Garfield. “That’s when I started thinking we needed to grow – certainly not for me and
