The honors keep coming for Home Furnsihings Association members Steve and Marty Darvin, this time from leaders in their own backyard.
Orland Park (Ill.) Mayor Keith Pekau and the village’s board of trustees have recognized the Darvin brothers with the Orland Park Outstanding Accomplishment Award.
Darvin Furniture in Orland Park is one of the largest furniture and mattress stores in the Chicago area.
“We were thrilled to be able to publicly recognize the Darvin family and the national award they won,” said Pekau, referring to the 2018 Leadership Award given by Furniture Today. “Darvin Furniture is a staple of our business community, and Orland Park is very proud of all of their accomplishments over the past 98 years.”
With the village hall filled by residents and business owners, Pekau asked how many in the audience have bought furniture from Darvin, according to a press release. Most raised their hands. “I expected a few hands to go up,” Pekau says. “Most of the board members behind me raised their hands and more than half of the audience at the board meeting did, too. It was a nice testament to a long-time Orland Park company.”
For Steve and Marty Darvin, the informal recognition of their business by the raised hands of so many happy customers was just as gratifying as receiving the actual award.
“This is such a great honor and a wonderful nod to all of the people we work with who have made shopping at Darvin a great experience,” Marty Darvin said. “We really are lucky to be doing something we love. We will always be committed to offering great quality and a fair price.”
Steve Darvin added: “Our family has been doing this for more than 98 years and we never grow tired of making our customers happy. Receiving an award like this, especially with it being the home of our business for so many years, means a lot to Marty and I. And we accept it on behalf of our family of employees and the generations of customers who have made it all possible.”
