Everything Home Furnishings Association member Jordan’s Furniture does is done in outsized portions. Its newest store is no exception. The company announced this week its seventh store will be located in Portland, Maine, in a former department store. With more than 120,000 square feet to work with, company officials are calling it the largest furniture store in Maine.
Jordan’s will occupy the former Filene’s/Bon-Ton department store’s two-story space in the Maine Mall. The store will display furniture and mattresses, and an extensive outlet center. In keeping with other Jordan’s stores, the new store will have an entertainment complex, although details about what that will be have not been released. Other Jordan’s Furniture locations are home to IMAX theaters, ropes courses and water shows.
Jordan’s President Eliot Tatelman said Portland “will be a perfect market for us.”
He said many Maine residents already know about Jordan’s because of the company’s long-standing partnership with Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox. “I cannot wait to introduce Jordan’s to the rest of the Maine market,” said Tatelman. “Once open, our store will be a destination. It will be one-stop shopping for not only furniture and mattresses but also entertainment, and maybe more.”
Jordan’s is the second large, Boston-area furniture chain to recently announce expansion plans in Maine.
In March, fellow HFA member Bernie & Phyl’s announced plans to take over a former Toys R Us space in South Portland. Bernie & Phyl’s showroom will be about 44,000 square feet. The store is expected to open later this spring.
