Workers are receiving the fattest wage increases since the Great Recession as furniture retailers struggle to find enough people to fill their ranks and employees have more leverage to demand higher pay and jump to better jobs.
How does a furniture store owner react? John Egger of Profitability Consulting Group can help.
Egger will host a seminar, “Yes, You can Hire Skilled, Positive Loyal Employees”, at 10:30 a.m. on April 7 in the association’s Resource Center at High Point Market. He’ll provide hiring and salary strategies that won’t bruise your budget and might even attract those elusive millennials into working for your store.
“Employees are looking for to come to work at a place they feel financially and emotionally connected to – a place that they can make a living and enjoy showing up every day,’’ says Egger. “There are a lot of solutions for making that happen without throwing money out” says Egger.
Earlier this month the government reported that wages in 2018 grew 3.4 percent, the fastest pace in nearly a decade and well above inflation, suggesting that employers are hustling to lure and retain workers.
Egger says it’s important to attract the best talent now and will show retailers how to keep them around longer. “As retailers it’s our duty to invest in the people we hire and build them up. I’m going to show retailers how to do that.”
The Retailer Resource Center is on the first floor of Plaza Suites, 222 S. Main St. For more information on the High Point Market, click here.
