Introduction

This Notice explains how the Home Furnishings Association (the “HFA, “we”, “group” or “us”) collects and processes your Personal Data. Each time you use the Site , the current version of this Notice will apply. Accordingly, whenever you use the Site, you should check the date of this Notice (which appears at the top) and review any changes since the last version. This Notice is applicable to all Site visitors, registered users, and all other users of the Site.

“Personal Data” is any information that enables us to identify you, directly or indirectly, by reference to an identifier such as your name, identification number, location data, online identifier or one or more factors specific to your physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity.

By visiting www.myhfa.org or related properties or email or text communications delivered from HFA, (together the “Site”), you acknowledge that you have read and understood the processes and policies referred to in this Notice.

 

Who the Site is for

The Site is for HFA members, sponsors, solution partners, and other interested adult parties located in the United States.  

The Site is explicitly not intended for use by citizens of the European Union or the United Kingdom. If you are a citizen of the European Union or the United Kingdom, do not use the Site.  

The Site is explicitly not intended for children under the age of 13.  If you are not 13 years or older, do not use the Site. HFA does not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under the age of 13. If HFA learns that Personal Data of persons less than 13 years-of-age has been collected through the Site, HFA will delete this Personal Data. If you are a parent or guardian and discover your child or minor under the age of 13 has posted, submitted, or otherwise communicated Personal Data to the Site without your consent, please notify us using the Contact Us section on the Site and HFA will remove the minor’s Personal Data from our systems.

 

What the Site May Not be Used for

You may not access or use, or attempt to access or use, the Services to take any action that could harm us or a third party.   You may not use the Site and its content or functionality for the development of any software program, including, but not limited to, training a machine learning or artificial intelligence (AI) system.

How HFA collects Your Personal Data

 

Personal Data HFA Collects From You

Correspondence information, which you provide when corresponding with us by phone, e-mail or, in discussion boards, in social media functions on the Site, when you contact us through the Contact Us page or other forms on the Site, and in other similar activities. This information may include your contact data, financial data, employment data, technical data, and more.

Membership information, which may be provided by you or your employer on your behalf when enrolling or updating your HFA membership record.  This information may include your contact data, Personal Data, financial data , employment data, technical data, and more.

Dues payment information, which may be provided by you or your employer on your behalf when paying your membership dues.  This information may include your contact data, financial data, technical data, and more.

Purchase information, which may be provided by you or your employer on your behalf when purchasing HFA goods or services. This information may include your contact data, financial data, technical data, and more.

Registration information, which may be provided by you or your employer on your behalf when registering for events, webinars, seminars, and other similar activities or subscribing to newsletters, emails, and other digital deliveries. This information may include your contact data, financial data, technical data, and more.

Interaction information, which may be determined by observing your digital behavior.  This may include your technical data.

Contact data includes name, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and related data.  Personal Data includes age, gender, race, and related data.  Employment data employer, job title, tenure, and related data.  Financial data includes data such as credit card numbers, credit card expiration dates, and related data.  Technical data includes data such as web browsers and their configuration, operating system used, mobile devices used, web pages viewed, web page interaction, web searches, downloads, IP addresses, GPS location, time zone setting, cookie identifiers, time of interactions, and related data.

Personal Data HFA Collects From Others

HFA may receive Personal Data about you from third-party databases or services that provide information about people. HFA may also receive advertising engagement and other advertising data from third-parties. 

 

How HFA Uses Your Personal Data

HFA will only process your Personal Data, including sharing it with third parties, when processing is necessary for the performance of a contract or delivery of a service to which you are a party, when required by law, when required to protect your vital interests or those of another person, or when necessary for the purposes of our legitimate commercial interests, except where such interests are overridden by your rights and interests.

HFA delivery of services includes at least these efforts

Membership services to carry out our obligations arising from your membership, or any other contract entered into between you and us, and to provide you with the information, products and services that you request from us;

Event services to provide you with information and other materials relating to content of HFA events, the speakers, sponsors and other attendees;

Customer service: to respond to your questions and provide related services;

General promotions:  to provide you with information about other events, products, and services HFA offers;

Partner promotions:  to provide you, or permit selected third parties to provide you, with information about partner events, products or services 

Furniture Market Services including in-person seminars, exhibit halls, social, and other activities at the High Point Furniture Market, the Las Vegas Furniture Market, and other similar industry marketplaces.

Subscription services, to provide our email newsletters and other offline and online publications and communications

Site services to effectively deliver Site content, functionality, and other services through the Site;

Administration services, including analysis, research, storage, security, troubleshooting, testing, payment processing, and experience optimization efforts; 

Advertising services, including ad serving, interaction monitoring, and exposure optimization.

 

Who Can Access Your Personal Data

HFA shares your Personal Data with HFA employees, volunteers, Board members, sub-contractors, partners, suppliers, advertisers, and sponsors to complete tasks related to delivery of a service as described above.  

HFA shares your data with law enforcement personnel when required by law and with legal representation when complying with legal requirements.

HFA may share your data with prospective buyers or sellers should HFA choose to purchase or sell businesses or assets.  If substantially all HFA assets are acquired by a third party, your Personal Data will be one of the transferred assets.

 

Selling Your Personal Data

HFA will not sell your Personal Data to third parties without your opt-in consent.

 

Security

Although HFA uses security measures to help protect your Personal Data against loss, misuse or unauthorized disclosure, HFA cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us over the internet. All information you provide to HFA is stored on secure servers. Any payment transaction is encrypted using SSL technology.  The Site is also secured by the content delivery network (CDN) Sucuri. Sucuri protects against cross site scripting, SQL injection, comment spam, excessive bot crawling, email harvesters, and more.

 

International Transfer of Personal Data

HFA is headquartered in the United States. Your Personal Data may be accessed by us or transferred to us in the United States or to our affiliates, partners, merchants, or service providers who are located worldwide. If you are visiting the Site from outside the United States, be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located, and our central database is operated. By using our Service, you consent to any transfer of this information.

 

How Long HFA Stores Your Personal Data

HFA maintains one or more solutions to store your Personal Data and may keep such information indefinitely.  HFA may retain and use your Personal Data as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements and rights, or if it is not technically reasonably feasible to remove it.

HFA will try to delete your Personal Data quickly upon request.  If you wish to cancel your account or request that HFA no longer use your information to provide you service, contact us using the methods published in the Contact Us section on our Site.

 

Where HFA Stores Your Personal Data

The Personal Data that you provide to us is generally stored on servers located in the United States. If you are located in another jurisdiction, you should be aware that once your Personal Data is submitted through our Site, it will be transferred to our servers in the United States and that the United States currently does not have uniform data protection laws in place.

 

Cookies and Do Not Track Policy

HFA uses technologies to collect Personal Data through the Site. HFA may use cookies, web beacons, tags and scripts, software development kits (SDKs), or other technologies and techniques.

California Do Not Track Disclosure:  Our site does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals in your browser and does not treat visitors whose browsers send a DNT signal differently from those that do not send a DNT signal.

Correction and Removal

If any of the information that HFA has about you is incorrect, or you wish to have information (including Personal Data) removed from our records, you may do so by contacting us using the methods published in the Contact Us section on our Site.

 

Opting Out

Additionally, if you prefer not to receive email marketing messages from us, please let us know by clicking on the manage preferences link at the bottom of any promotional email message that you receive, by visiting your HFA communications preferences page, or by contacting us using the methods published in the Contact Us section on our Site.

Your California Rights

Residents of California please contact us using the Contact Us section on the Site if you wish to have all Personal Data purged that was collected by HFA.

FOR RESIDENTS OF CALIFORNIA ONLY. Section 1798.83 of the California Civil Code requires select businesses to disclose policies relating to the sharing of certain categories of your Personal Data with third parties. If you reside in California, you may request information about our disclosures of certain categories of Personal Data to third parties for direct marketing purposes.
