  • Employee engagement surveys allow you to find out why are people staying so you know what to keep doing.
  • Find out if you are competitive in the marketplace, and you can use that in your discussions with employees.
  • Don’t make short-term decisions that don’t align with your long-term plans or goals.
  • Build a relationship with your employees from day one with open lines of communication with managers and employees.
  • You have to make sure that there is an opportunity for your workforce to make a living; so, don’t overstaff during low-traffic days.
  • You may have people that want to leave their current position, so cross-training them in other departments shows them you care and want to help them grow their value and accomplish their goals.
  • Retention starts in the recruiting stage, making sure employees feel comfortable, and engaged in the company culture, showing your excitement to have them as part of the team, and showing you care.
  • Today, employees are not necessarily looking for a paycheck but looking for growth and development.
  • Connect employees with a mentor to engage with them and help their development.
  • People work for people! Train your supervisors on how to be an empathetic leader. Encourage connecting, caring, and listening to people and provide management training.
  • Instill a sense of ownership in your team by making sure that everybody knows what the goals are and getting them involved in the mission.
