The team at RC Willey thought the best way to honor their president, Jeff Child, and host the awarding of the HFA Trailblazer of the Year award was to bring team members from around the company to an event at their headquarters in Salt Lake City. It is no wonder. Jeff Child gives all the credit for his success and RC Willey to the team. The award might be singular; however, Jeff clarifies that it is a group honor. Humility and servant leadership are hallmarks of the work Jeff has done and continues to do.
What stood out to the judges and us here at HFA is how Jeff answered the call to help lead the family business 40 years ago when he was planning to be a history professor. Instead, he chose to preserve family history as his true calling.
Like other accomplished leaders, Jeff does a lot of little things well. He still works with new sales associates, imparting his years of insight and merchandising prowess into conversations with them. It’s not only a great way to introduce them to the RC Willey culture, but what does it say when your top leader is willing to take the time to invest in you as a new member of the team?
Jeff also never shies away from the opportunity to serve. There’s no entity in our industry that he hasn’t been a part of in one way or another and has not been willing to support. Whenever HFA or the industry calls on him for guidance and expertise, he never says no to providing both. Jeff’s a leader people want to follow. That’s why he’s an HFA Trailblazer.
